What Is Pity in Genshin Impact?
"Pity" is Genshin's guarantee system. Every wish without a 5-star raises your pity counter, and once the counter gets high enough you are guaranteed a 5-star. Your pity counter carries over between banners of the same type, so it is never lost when a banner ends.
- 4-star guarantee: you get at least one 4-star (or better) every 10 wishes.
- Hard pity (character banner): a 5-star is guaranteed on or before your 90th wish.
- Soft pity: from around the 74th wish, your chance of a 5-star rises sharply with every wish. Most players get their 5-star between wishes 74 and 90.
The 50/50 Explained
On the limited character banner, when you get a 5-star there is a 50% chance it is the featured character and a 50% chance it is a standard character (you "lose the 50/50").
- Win the 50/50: you get the featured character.
- Lose the 50/50: your next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured character. This guarantee also carries over to future character banners.
So the worst case for a specific limited character is 180 wishes (90 to lose the 50/50, plus 90 for the guarantee). HoYoverse has also added a mechanic called Capturing Radiance that can help players who lose the 50/50 several times in a row.
Weapon and Standard Banners
- Weapon banner: a 5-star weapon is guaranteed within 80 wishes. Use Epitomized Path to choose the weapon you want, so you do not get the wrong one repeatedly.
- Standard banner: 5-star within 90 wishes, but only standard characters and weapons.
How Many Primogems for a 5-Star?
One wish costs 160 Primogems.
- Soft pity (about 75 wishes): about 12,000 Primogems.
- Hard pity (90 wishes): 14,400 Primogems.
- Guaranteed featured character in the worst case (180 wishes): 28,800 Primogems.
How Much Does a 5-Star Cost in Bangladesh?
If you buy all your wishes with the largest pack (3880 Genesis Crystals, about ৳264 per wish at September 2026 prices):
- 90 wishes: about ৳23,753
- 180 wishes: about ৳47,505
That is the worst case with no free Primogems. In reality almost nobody pays this, because:

- Track your pity. Open the wish history in the game to see how many wishes since your last 5-star.
- Top up only when you are close. If you are at wish 70 and need 20 more, a small top up is enough — you do not need a full 90 wishes.
